The 1983 Kentucky Mr. Basketball, Bennett earned All-SEC honors and was named to the All-NCAA Regional Team as a junior on the 1985-86 team. After redshirting a season, he returned as team captain to average 15.2 points and 7.8 rebounds as a senior, and later served as an assistant coach under Rick Pitino.
