Kansas Had a 45% Crystal Ball on Tyran Stokes. He Chose Kentucky Anyway.
Three weeks ago, the crystal ball on Tyran Stokes โ the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2026 class โ pointed to Lawrence. Kansas was the 45% favorite. Kentucky was a 34% underdog. Today, Stokes chose the Wildcats over Kansas, Duke, USC, and Oregon, and in doing so handed Mark Pope the biggest recruiting win of his Kentucky tenure. Pope didn't flip this with a deep tournament run โ he flipped it with a compelling vision and relentless pursuit during a portal window that was supposed to define how much trouble he was in. There are still holes: the portal closes April 21, a veteran point guard is the most critical remaining need, and Donnie Freeman visited Lexington today to fill the frontcourt gap left by Garrison and Jelavic. But after two years of 'Pope can't recruit at Kentucky's level,' today's answer is the best possible kind of response: a four-letter word and a commitment form.
