"Bottom 5 in the SEC." Then Look at the Plane Pope Was on This Week.
This week the talk shows ranked Mark Pope's 2026-27 roster among the worst five in the SEC — while Pope was in Tel Aviv watching 6-foot-8 Maccabi center Márcio Santos run pick-and-roll, then in Orlando fishing with CJ Rosser, the No. 1 player in the 2027 class. The roster they're dismissing already includes Ousmane N'Diaye (10.2 PPG, 6.7 RPG in Italy's Serie A), Justin McBride (40% from three at James Madison), Washington's Zoom Diallo, Furman's Alex Wilkins, and returning vets Trent Noah and Reece Potter — with five scholarships still open and six weeks left until the NBA Draft withdrawal deadline. Every Kentucky coach who lasted past year three made the Elite Eight by then. Every one of them was building in May, not coasting. "Bottom 5" is a clean prediction for a 30-second hit. The plane to Tel Aviv is a coach who isn't done.
