Quaintance declared in mid-April after a season that barely happened: four appearances, 5.0 points and 5.0 rebounds a game, the rest lost to recovery from ACL surgery and a knee that kept swelling. That is not a scouting report; that is a medical file with highlights attached. And yet the league never moved off him. April reporting pegged him as a likely lottery pick, and while the mocks have cooled since, USA TODAY's latest still slots him in the first round. He was one of three Wildcats invited to the combine, alongside Oweh and Malachi Moreno. Teams are drafting the pre-injury tape — the switchable big with real rim protection — and betting their performance staff on the rest. Somebody in the top 30 is going to make that bet.
Oweh's case is the opposite shape. Out of eligibility, so there was no decision to make — just a resume. He led Kentucky at 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists over a full 36-game season, and when the lights got brightest he produced his best tape: 35 points on Santa Clara in the NCAA Tournament's first round, on 11-of-24 shooting with a 10-of-12 night at the line, plus 8 boards and 7 assists in an 89-84 win. That is the whole Oweh profile in one box score — relentless downhill pressure, free throws generated in volume, secondary playmaking. The hesitation: ESPN's board has had him in the mid-70s, outside the draft's 60 picks, even as post-deadline chatter says his stock is climbing. Wednesday night will be long. The tape says it shouldn't be.

2025-26 per-game numbers: Otega Oweh (36 games) vs. Jayden Quaintance (4 games — ACL recovery). One resume argues with volume, the other with upside.

2026 NBA Draft schedule
The draft already shaped next season's roster more than it will shape draft night. Malachi Moreno tested the process, got combine reps, and withdrew by the May 27 deadline — he returns for year two after averaging 7.8 points and 6.3 boards as a freshman. Milan Momcilovic pulled his name out by the same deadline and, days later, picked Kentucky. The two names still in are the two with no road back: Quaintance bet on himself in April, and Oweh's clock simply ran out. Watch Tuesday for Quaintance's range. Watch Wednesday — maybe late — for Oweh's name, and remember the 35-piece against Santa Clara when some team gets him at a discount.
