A World War II hero who survived 16 months as a prisoner of war after being shot down over Europe, Barker returned to play on Kentucky's 'Fabulous Five,' helping win back-to-back NCAA championships (1948, 1949) and the 1948 Olympic gold medal. Teammate Ralph Beard called him one of the best passers he had ever seen.
