The 1950 Kentucky Mr. Basketball, Rose was a key backcourt contributor on the 1953-54 squad that completed the program's only perfect 25-0 season. Coach Adolph Rupp personally requested that Rose's jersey be retired alongside Hall of Famers Cliff Hagan, Frank Ramsey, and Lou Tsioropoulos.
