Peak 16.0 PPG in 1988-89 · Career avg 10.5
The son of 14-year NBA veteran Leroy Ellis, LeRon was a McDonald's All-American who led Kentucky in scoring with 16.0 points per game as a sophomore during the turbulent 1988-89 season that ended 13-19, the program's first losing record since 1927. When NCAA probation hit, Ellis transferred to Syracuse and was later drafted 22nd overall by the LA Clippers — but his 632 points in just 60 games at Kentucky showed the kind of talent that walked out the door because of institutional failures.
